Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV)
The Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV) is a commercial vehicle modified for the use of the Army. The vehicle has five basic configurations; cargo, utility, ambulance, shelter carrier, and chassis. The vehicles were purchased in the late 70's and early 80's from Chrysler Corporation, Dodge Division, and in the late 80's from General Motors. There were 5 model types procured for the Army's use, the M880, M883, M892 (Dodge Models) M1008 and M1028 (General Motors Models). The latest 5 CUCV variants are all General Motors Models; M1008, M1009, M1010, M1028, and M1031.

M1008
The M1008 is a 5/4 ton tactical cargo truck, General Motors Model K30903 Pickup. Military tasks include light cargo transport and personnel transport. Military requirements include all of the following: air transportability; blackout lights; camouflage paint; cargo box cover kit add-on capability; cargo tiedown hooks; communication kit add-on capability; engine diagnostic connector assembly; military markings; multi-purpose towing/tiedown eyes; nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) warfare protection; NBC kit provisions; radio mounting provisions; rear pintle hook with trailer wiring connector; slave-start capability; towing capability; troop seat kit (included); weapon holders; winterization kit add-on capability.
